Description

Chapel House is a farmhouse that may date back to the 16th century, with extensions from the 17th century and mid-19th century. It features a timber frame with plaster and brick infill, finely coursed rubble, and a stone tiled roof, with a central stack and a stack at the rear left. The building has a T-plan layout, with the head of the T facing south. The east/west range from the 16th century includes a gabled projecting wing, likely from the 17th century, to the north, and a lower gabled cross-wing that is partially integrated with a later catslide at the east end. There is a 19th-century brick and rubble extension to the west.

The house is two storeys high and has a window arrangement of 1:3. On the north elevation, the eastern part features a range of 2-light casements in the cross-wing and the projecting centre wing, with a 3-light casement between them, topped by a gabled half dormer. There is a segmentally-headed opening to the right, which is part of the mid-19th-century extension. The projecting gable includes a 4-light bracketed oriel window from the 17th century (which has been altered), along with mid-19th-century bargeboards and a quadrant finial, and curved V-struts at the apex of the gable. A ledged door is located with a 19th-century lean-to in the angle with the central wing. There are additional entrances into the catslide extension and to the right of the projecting gable.

Inside, there is 17th-century oak panelling in the left-hand front and rear principal rooms, and the main ground floor ceiling beams feature broach stop chamfers. The left-hand lean-to has late half raking strut trusses.
