Description

Rose Cottage is a cottage that likely dates from the late 17th century to the early 18th century, with later extensions. It features a timber frame that is partly covered in brick, along with a brick extension and a stone slate roof. There is an external stack with a bread oven and a detached brick chimney on the north gable end. The cottage is arranged in two bays and two cells, with an additional bay added to the south in the mid-19th century. It has one storey and an attic.

The east elevation, which has been rebuilt in brick, includes two early 20th-century metal casement windows with two lights each, positioned under segmental heads, one on either side of the entrance. The door leading to the 19th-century brick extension is contemporary with it and is a ledged door. The first floor features a wide gabled dormer with a four-light early 20th-century metal casement window to the left of the main entry.

The rear elevation facing west retains its timber framing, while the 19th-century section has mock framing painted on the brickwork. The frame consists of three panels high from the low cill to the wall-plate, with two symmetrically placed early 20th-century two-light metal casement windows under timber weatherings on the ground floor. The north gable has a heavily jowled post at the north-west corner. The interior has not been inspected.
