Description

Brook Cottage is a house dating from the early 19th century, with later 19th-century extensions. It is constructed of painted stone rubble with dressed stone quoins, and has a concrete tile roof with gabled ends. A stone chimney stack, rebuilt at the top in brick, sits centrally, while a brick gable-end stack serves the later range. The original house was built with a two-room plan, incorporating a lobby entrance situated in front of a central axial stack, which contains back-to-back fireplaces. A rear outshut and a parallel range, potentially originally a separate cottage, were added later in the 19th century, and are now incorporated into the main house.

The east front is symmetrical, with three bays. The centre of the first floor has a blind window. All windows and the doorway feature 4-centred arches. The two-light windows have iron casements and Y-shaped glazing bars. The front door is a pair of flush-panelled doors, topped with a Gothick fanlight with Y-shaped bars. The left-hand range has a Gothick window on the first floor, and below it, a casement with a cambered arch and a French casement. The rear (west) elevation has a roof that slopes down as a catslide over the outshut and a two-storey gable-ended range to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
