Description

Monnington Court and the attached stables are a house built in the early 19th century. The structure is made of brick and features hipped slate roofs, with an end stack to the right of the main block. It has a rectangular plan oriented north to south, standing two storeys tall with three bays, and the stables to the east are one and a half storeys high. The brickwork is laid in Flemish bond and there is a dentilled eaves cornice. The windows have segmental heads and are fitted with glazing-bar sashes; the central window on the first floor is taller and has a semi-circular head. The central entrance is through a gabled 20th-century porch that has a glazed door. The stables to the east feature a small wooden mullioned window and a tallet staircase at the rear. The rear of the main block includes a round-headed first-floor window that mirrors the one at the front, along with a stone hipped extension to the northeast. The west elevation has two canted bay windows with glazing-bar sashes on the ground floor. Inside, the kitchen in the northeast corner has a stop-chamfered 17th-century beam, while the principal room to the southwest boasts an early 19th-century black marble or scagliola chimney piece with a moulded shelf supported by wide consoles above pilasters.
