Description

Wisteria House is a house with attached stables located at the rear. It dates from the late 17th century, with additions and alterations from the late 18th century and early 19th century. The building is constructed of Flemish bond brick and features a hipped tiled roof with brick stacks. It is designed in an L-plan, with the entrance positioned at right angles to the road.

The house is two stories high and has a three-window front. It includes two canted bays with diamond leaded casements and hipped roofs. The first floor features 9-pane sash windows, with tripartite 9-pane sashes on either side. There is a coved plaster eaves cornice and two hipped dormers on the steeply pitched roof. The left side of the house has 12-pane sash windows.

The right side serves as the entrance front, which has a four-panelled door in a chamfered case topped with a flat wooden hood supported by carved brackets. To the right of the door is a 12-pane sash window and another four-panelled door from around 1800. Mid-19th century services to the right include a planked door with a flat wooden hood on brackets and two 12-pane sashes.

The attached stable, built in 1812, features a round-arched entry to a through passage with a keystone and imposts, along with double doors with a flat arch to the right. The loft has a 2-light casement window set in a dentilled gable and a half-hipped roof. The interior was not accessible during the survey in January 1985, but it is reported to have newel stairs with stick balusters from around 1800, early 19th-century fittings, and an early 17th-century roof.
