Description
Youngs Farm is a detached house dating from the 16th century, with a north range added around 1600 and a front that was refenestrated in the early 19th century. It is constructed of English bond brick and features a tiled roof with brick stacks at the rear and right gable. The building has a T-plan layout and is two stories high with a three-window front. The central entrance consists of a six-panelled door set within a moulded architrave, topped by a flat wooden hood supported by brackets. To the left of the door are two 12-pane sash windows, while there is one to the right, all featuring flat arches. The first floor includes a four-light mullioned and transomed window to the left, a two-light leaded casement above the door, and a two-light casement to the right. There are also two hipped dormers with leaded casements. The right side of the building has two-light casements, while the left side features a three-light and a two-light casement. The rear showcases a truncated 16th-century range that was originally timber-framed and faced in brick in the early 18th century, with two-light casements and a half-hipped roof. The main range has 12-pane sashes and a large external stack with a pair of diagonally set stacks.
Inside, the south range has a chamfered open fireplace lintel with rounded corners and some remaining timber-framing. The north range features a timber-framed entrance hall, chamfered beams with ogee stops, a fireplace with a moulded stone surround, early 18th-century panelling, and doors with six fielded panels in the dining room, along with chamfered doorcases. The first floor includes winding stairs. The brickwork on the north front is noted as an early and fine example of brickwork in this area.
