Description

The Lynches is a detached house that has been divided into three dwellings, dating from around 1660. It is constructed of Flemish bond brick with a tiled roof and features brick stacks at the rear and to the left. The building is two stories high with a symmetrical front that has seven bays. The central door has six fielded panels and is framed by a moulded stone architrave. On either side of the door are three stone cross windows with flat-arched heads, and there is a moulded string course at lintel level. The first floor includes a central blocked oculus and three cross windows on each side. The eaves cornice is wooden and has modillions.

The right return wall displays all-over lozenge diapering and features a two-brick plat band, along with a latticed casement window in the attic. At the rear, there is a central gabled stair turret with 2-light casements, a lateral stack with tumbling-in to the left, and an outshut along with a two-storey wing that also has 2-light casements. The interior was not accessible during the survey in January 1985, but it is reported to contain mostly 19th-century fittings, an 18th-century staircase with stout newels and ogee finials on the first floor, and a Tudor-arched opening leading to the entrance hall. The house is noted to have been divided into four tenements since the 17th century, with the front entrance originally opening onto parish rooms.
