Description

BODENHAM CP off BOWLEY LANE (east side) SO 55 SW 5/36 Barn about 20 yards north of Broadfield Court 11.6.59 (formerly listed as Broadfield Court, attached granary and barn on south side of the courtyard) GV II Barn. Probably late C16. Timber-framed with brick infill on sandstone rubble base, sandstone rubble and brick walling at gable ends and stone slate roof laid in diminishing courses with parapet at west end. Five framed bays aligned east/west; wagon bays with opposed cart entries in bays 1 and 4 from west end. The wagon bay at the west end has a gabled porch wing to its south elevation. Framing: three rows of square panels from sill to wall-plate. Porch wing has a collar and tie-beam truss with decorative raking struts. There are five tiers of alighting ledges and entry holes for pigeons in the gable. The brick panels have header ventilation openings and the east end stone wall has two tiers of ventilation slits. Interior: roof has four intermediate collar and tie-beam trusses with a central strut, and raking struts across the lower corners, beneath the collar and a V-strut above the collar. The cross-frames have large swept braces across their lower corners.
