Description
The Machin monument is located about 6 yards south of the southwest corner of the vestry of the Church of St Mary. This headstone commemorates William Machin, who died in 1673. It is made of sandstone and features a segmental head with rounded shoulders that have shallow incised scrolls on their east faces. There is a recessed segmentally-headed inscription panel. Additionally, the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England, Volume I, page 239, notes a headstone for Margery, the wife of William Machin, who died in June 1706.
