Description

The Smith monument is a headstone located beside the north-east corner of the north transept of the Church of St Mary. It dates from the mid-18th century and commemorates John Jerome Smith, who died in 1752. The monument is made of limestone and features a scrolled top. The face is carved with an hourglass surrounded by decorative flourishes, and the inscription is in seriffed lettering, although the lower half is buried.
