Description
The Smith monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard, about 4 metres west of the south porch of the Church of St. Mary. It commemorates William Smith, who died in 1746. The tomb is made of stone and features a flat lid with a moulded edge. The south side displays elaborate rococo decoration surrounding the inscription, with a central head above it. The north side has a raised rectangular panel with scalloped corners, also adorned with rococo decoration. The ends are pilaster-style, and the main face and returns feature additional rococo details, all resting on a moulded base. There is a later inscription for Thomas Commins, who died in 1780. This monument is a well-preserved example of rococo work.
