Description
The Mason family grave slab is located in the churchyard of the Church of St Mary. It is made of sandstone and is rectangular in shape, featuring incised carvings, including a decorative border. At the foot of the slab, there is a large scroll motif that contains a diamond. The top of the slab has an inscription in large, widely-spaced letters that reads, "Here Resteth The Body of John Mason Who Died March The 27 1671." Below this, in slightly different lettering, is another inscription that states, "Also Mary his Wife who died Aprl the 7th 1680." In the center of the slab, there is an inscription that reads, "Richard Mason His son Who Died janvary The 14th 1670." Additionally, there are two inscriptions below in standard, smaller lettering, indicating that the slab was reused by the same family in the late 18th century.
