Description
The Thomas Andrew Knight II monument is a chest tomb located about 12 yards north-east of the north-east corner of the Church of St Mary. It dates from 1827 and is made of fossilised limestone in a simple Neo-Classical style. The tomb features a plain base and a low hipped chamfered capping. The side and end panels have recessed margins and are crafted from finer limestone.
On the west side, there is incised lettering that reads:
"EHEU FALLACEM SPEM SUB MARMORE HOC JACET THOMAS ANDREAS KNIGHT QUI AETATE FLORENS FIRMACUE VALETUDINE MORTEM INOPINATAM OBIIT A QUO INGENUO BENEVOLO LIBERALI PATRIA FRUCTUS UBERRIMOS CEPISSET SI VIS EJUS INGENII AD EXCOGITANDUM ACUTA ET AD EXPLICANDUM PROMPTA ANIMIQUE IN AGENDO CONSTANTIA IN LUCEM CLARIOREM ET CONSPECTUM OMNIUM VENISSENT ET VITA EXCESSIT ANN AETAT XXXII III CAL NOV MDCCCXXVII FILIO OPTIMO PATER INFELIX MONUMENTUM HOC POSUIT."
