Description

Exchequer Court is a farmhouse that likely dates back to the 17th century, with later enlargements and remodeling in the late 18th century. It is constructed of timber-frame and brick, topped with concrete tiled roofs and features brick stacks. The building has an irregular plan, with the main range oriented east to west, a southward projecting wing at the west end, and a lower former granary wing of two bays that also projects south at the east end. It includes a cellar, two storeys, and attics.

The south elevation displays a window arrangement of 2:2:1, featuring 2-light casements in the gable fronts on each side and sash windows on the main front. This front is highlighted by a central late 19th-century gabled brick porch with a ledged contemporary door. A brick plat band runs between the ground and first floors of the center and left sections, while the right gable has segmental-headed openings. The rear stack is noted for its pilaster strips, as mentioned in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments. The granary section showcases exposed timber-framing on the east and north sides, with tallet stairs located to the north.

Inside, the ground floor ceiling beams have asymmetrical pyramidal chamfer-stops, and in the main range, there is a four-flight dog-leg staircase from the early 18th century featuring turned balusters.
