Description

Bage Court is a farmhouse located on the north side of the B4348 in Dorstone. It dates from the early 18th century and incorporates fragments from the early 16th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of coursed rubble and features a hipped stone slate roof that sweeps down to the eaves. It has an L-shaped plan, with wings extending to the northwest and southwest, and stacks located on the southwest and southeast walls of the respective wings.

The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a wooden moulded cornice and a stone band at the ground floor, which is broken over the entrance. The southwest front has a projecting wing on the right, with the side wall of the other wing to the left, featuring a large stack in the centre and an oven to the left. The entrance is on the right and is covered by a flat canopy. The projecting wing has two storeys and three late 19th-century cross windows with wedge lintels. On the ground floor, two late 19th-century cross windows flank the entrance, which is topped by a mid-20th-century semi-circular arch with a keystone, leading to a half-glazed door that is recessed and has a segmental fanlight above.

Inside, there is a dog-leg staircase with fluted vases on the turned balusters. In the northwest/southeast wing, there is a moulded beam in the wall dating from the early 16th century, with studs tenoned into the top, although no associated features are detectable.
