Description
Brynspard Farmhouse and the attached barn are a farmhouse and barn built in the early 17th century, with later alterations. The structure is made of rubble and features a roof of stone slate, slate, and corrugated iron. The farmhouse has a three-room plan aligned east to west, with end stacks and adjacent spiral staircases. There is a semi-circular central south porch with a side entrance. The barn, attached to the west end of the farmhouse, has two roof bays and dates from the 18th century.
The farmhouse is two storeys high with irregular window placement. On the first floor, there are four windows: a 20th-century three-light casement, an 18th-century four-light casement, a 20th-century two-light casement, and an 18th-century fixed two-light casement. On the ground floor, there are three windows and an entrance to the left under a gabled canopy. To the right, there is a 20th-century two-light casement with a square label, and an early 17th-century five-light ovolo mullion and transom window with a square label, along with a small fixed casement in a blocked entrance.
Inside, the two rooms to the east are divided by a stud-and-plank partition, with lightly moulded studs. The enclosure to the south porch is also made of stud-and-plank, and there is an original doorhead leading to the west spiral staircase. The barn features a large entry for carts and a loft door to the right above a four-light unglazed window with chamfered mullions. The south elevation of the barn was partially rebuilt in the 19th century using brick. Inside the barn, there is a doorhead in the east wall, similar to one on the opposite side inside the house, above a blocked opening and a timber lintel over a blocked fireplace, indicating that the house was originally longer.
