Description
Stocks Tree Cottage is a cottage that likely dates from the late 17th century or early 18th century, with some later alterations. It features a plinth made of sandstone rubble and a timber frame with plaster infill. The roof is tiled and has a large sandstone side stack that includes a baking oven. The building has a rectangular two-bay plan that runs roughly east to west, which was extended by one bay to the east in the 20th century.
The cottage is two storeys high with attics. On the south elevation, there is one window, which is a 2-light early 20th-century casement located to the right of the centre. The ground floor has three contemporary casement windows. To the left, there is a gabled porch. The weathering at the first-floor level is covered with tiles. An attic window is situated in the left gable above a lean-to extension. The frame consists of three square panels high from the cill to the wall-plate. Access to the interior is not permitted, but it is noted that the trusses are said to be unaltered. The cottage is included for its group value.
