Description
This barn, located about 80 yards north of New House Farmhouse, has origins that date back earlier but includes 19th-century additions. It features a small section of timber wall-framing, sandstone rubble, and a corrugated iron roof. The barn has eight bays that are aligned roughly north-west to south-east. The south elevation includes opposed cart entries in the third bay from both the left and right, ventilation loops, and is partly obscured by a late 20th-century lean-to extension in the center and a 19th-century cowshelter on the right.
Inside, the south wall between the threshing floors showcases square framing, which may date from the late 17th century to early 18th century, along with raking struts connecting the ties to the principals. A dated beam can be found immediately to the west of the western threshing floor. The rubble walls appear to have been primarily constructed in the 19th century, with older trusses being reused. New House Farmhouse is not included in this listing.
