Description

HAYWOOD CP - SO 43 NE 3/77 Pig sties about 85 yards north-north-west of Haywood Lodge GV II Pig sties. Circa 1848. Sandstone rubble with tiled roof and brick stack. T-plan with six sties to south cross-wing, central passage leading to northern room for making pigswill. Single storey. South elevation has gabled centre to passage with low ledged door. Walls dividing the sties are formed from large pieces of sandstone slate laid on end and cramped with bolted pieces of iron. Roof of central passage extends outwards on pegged and chamfered oak posts covering troughs. Central entry to north room has segmental head with brick arch. Gable top to north room has oculus. Interior of north room has pegged king-post truss carrying angle struts to principals.
