Description
These pig sties, located about 85 yards north-north-west of Haywood Lodge, were built around 1848. They are constructed from sandstone rubble and feature a tiled roof with a brick stack. The building has a T-plan layout, consisting of six sties in the south cross-wing and a central passage that leads to a northern room designated for making pigswill. It is a single-storey structure.
The south elevation includes a gabled center for the passage, which has a low ledged door. The walls that separate the sties are made from large pieces of sandstone slate laid on end and secured with bolted pieces of iron. The roof of the central passage extends outward on pegged and stop-chamfered oak posts that cover troughs. The central entry to the northern room features a segmental head with a brick arch, and the gable top of this room has an oculus. Inside the northern room, there is a pegged king-post truss that supports angle struts to the principals.
