Description
The Piggery at Morfa is a building specifically designed for the efficient rearing of pigs, following mid-19th century practices. Constructed from stone, it features slate roofs with copings and blue clayware ridges. The structure consists of two gabled end buildings connected by a 4-meter high wall topped with cock-and-hen copings, which shields the pig run from the house. Between these buildings are ranges of lean-to pig sties that form two peninsulas of equal length, linked by a lean-to feed-walk against the high wall.
The southeast end building includes a meal store and preparation room, highlighted by a large blue brick stack that projects at the top. It has a side access stable door and a door leading to the feed walk for the sties. This building also features gable end windows and a later added dovecote facing the house. The northwest building is similar in size and shape but does not have a stack; it serves as a gig house that opens towards the farmhouse. The three runs are enclosed by low walls and a gate, with low openings leading into the pig sties.
