Description

Archway Cottages 1 to 4, formerly known as Cork Alley, are a row of four cottages that have been converted into stores. They date from the late 18th century and early 19th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. The cottages are constructed of brick and feature pantile roofs, with the two cottages on the left having been renewed in the late 20th century. The buildings have cogged eaves and are topped with two gable stacks and three ridge stacks.

The central pair of cottages includes a first-floor band and segment-headed openings on the ground floor. Cottage No. 4, on the left, has two glazing bar sash windows, with two similar sashes below flanked by single doors; the left door is blocked and has a small casement window inserted. Cottage No. 3, to the right, features two Yorkshire sash windows and an off-centre door flanked by Yorkshire sashes—two on the right and one on the left. Cottage No. 2, further to the right, has three 20th-century casement windows and a central door flanked by single similar casements. Cottage No. 1 has two 20th-century casements, with a central casement below flanked to the left by an entry and a plank door, and to the right by a blocked doorway and a similar casement.
