Description
Millgate House Hotel is a late 18th-century building that has undergone mid-19th and 20th-century alterations and additions. It is constructed of brick with stone and stucco dressings, topped with a slate roof featuring two ridge stacks. The structure has a plinth and rebated eaves, and the windows are primarily 16-pane sashes. The hotel has two storeys plus attics and a three-window range with stucco lintels. Above this, there is a central 20th-century box dormer.
Access is via steps leading to a central reeded wooden doorcase, which has an open pediment supported by curved brackets, a moulded six-panel door, and an overlight. Flanking the door are two sashes. To the right, there is a deeply recessed 19th-century addition with a 12-pane sash. In front of this is a hipped single-storey addition featuring a small segment-headed Yorkshire sash.
The left return of the building has two sashes, with a single sash in the gable above. Below, to the right, there is a 19th-century bow window with coping and 12-pane sashes, alongside a single sash to its left. To the left, there is a two-storey 19th-century addition with a single gable stack and a central window. Below this is a glazed corridor that connects to a lower addition with a pantile roof, which includes a large triple sash and a small casement.
Surrounding the property is a partly renewed brick boundary wall with stone coping and brick and stone piers, with the pair to the left featuring pyramidal caps. The wall is approximately 20 meters long.
