Description

52 and 54 Millgate are a former public house and house, dating to the late 18th century, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. The building is constructed of brick with stone dressings and has a pantile roof. It features a plinth, a band to the first floor, dentilled eaves, a gable band, two gable stacks and a single ridge stack. The building is two storeys high with attics, and has a six-window front with segment-headed glazing bar sashes, arranged 3/3, with smaller windows in the centre. Four 20th-century sloping dormers with casements are located above, arranged 1/3. On the ground floor, to the left, is a moulded six-panel door with an overlight, flanked on the left by a two-pane shop window with toplights, and on the right by a glazing bar sash, all with segment-headed tops. To the right is a mid-20th century brick doorcase with a two-leaf door and overlight, flanked by two metal casements. The left gable projects beyond the adjacent number 8 Mill Lane. To the right are two blank openings, with two casements at different levels above, all with segment-headed tops. Below, to the right, is a half-glazed corner door with a wooden lintel on shaped imposts, and to the left, a glazing bar sash with a segment-headed top.
