Description

12 Northgate is a building in Newark on Trent, originally constructed as two houses in the early 19th century, with later alterations in the late 19th and late 20th centuries. The structure is made of brick with stone dressings and features gabled and hipped slate roofs, along with dentillated eaves, a single ridge, and two rear wall stacks. It stands two storeys high and has a five-window range, which includes an off-centre blank space flanked by two small glazing bar sashes, all with segment heads.

On the ground floor to the right, there is a late 20th-century panelled wooden shopfront with a recessed central doorway and single-pane windows on either side. To the left, there is a small casement window set in a blocked doorway, followed by two round-headed openings with 20th-century glazed doors. The street-facing end has a segment-headed glazing bar sash on each floor, with the upper window being smaller.

The west side of the building features an off-centre single-storey hipped addition with a panelled door. To its left, there is a fielded six-panel door with an overlight, flanked on the right by a segment-headed glazing bar sash. Above this, to the right, is a small six-pane light. This building may have originally been part of the outbuildings of Northgate House, located at number 14.
