Description

Two houses at 13 and 15 Castlegate, Newark on Trent, now a house and shop, were built in the late 18th century, with an early 19th-century single window addition and further alterations in the late 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of brick with stone dressings and a slate roof. Features include a plinth, sill band, first floor band, modillion eaves, a single gable, and ridge stacks. The building is three storeys high with a six-window range. The upper floors contain five glazing bar sashes with rubbed brick heads; to the right is a segment-headed window set lower. Above these are six smaller glazing bar sashes, with the rightmost window having a segmental head. On the ground floor, an off-centre wooden doorcase contains a moulded six-panel door and overlight. To the left of the door are two glazing bar sashes with rubbed brick heads. To the right of the main doorway is a late 19th-century wooden shopfront, altered in the late 20th century, featuring a cornice on brackets and two single-pane windows. A carriage entry with a pair of doors is situated to the right of the shopfront.
