Description
No. 17 Castle Gate is a public house that dates from the early 18th century and early 19th century, with some 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of colourwashed brick and features a steeply pitched pantile roof. The interior may include timber framing. It has a single coped gable and two ridge stacks along with a single gable stack. The building is two storeys high and has a three-window range in an L-plan layout. On the left side, there is a five-light Yorkshire sash window, while the right side has a projecting section with two two-light Yorkshire sashes. Below these, there is an off-centre carriage entry with a wooden lintel, and to its left is a segment-headed cross casement window. To the right, there are two 19th-century segment-headed windows that have been altered in the 20th century.
