Description

No. 11 Castlegate is a mid-18th century house, subsequently converted to a garage in the early 20th century before being converted and restored in 1987 by Guy St John Taylor Associates. The building is constructed of brick with stone dressings, and has a hipped slate roof. It features a plinth, a band at first floor level, dentilated eaves, and two ridge stacks. A projecting central section contains a single window with quoins and a pediment. The building is two storeys plus attics, with a five-window range of glazing bar sashes. Three box dormers with glazing bar sashes are positioned above. A central reeded doorcase is topped by a pediment on consoles, and contains a six-panel door and overlight. To the left are two glazing bar sashes with rubbed brick heads. To the right, a 1987 shop entrance has been created in the form of a carriage entrance, featuring double doors and a wooden cornice.
