Description

The building at 38, 38A, and 40 Barnby Gate in Newark on Trent comprises two early 19th-century houses, now used as a house, shop, and flat. Constructed of brick with stone dressings and a slate roof, it features a plinth, a ground floor impost band, a first floor sill band, moulded wooden eaves, two gable and a single ridge stack. The building is three storeys high, with a three-window front. The upper windows are glazing bar sashes with segmental heads, with smaller windows on the third floor. The ground floor has a central sash window flanked by reeded doorcases featuring paterae and fielded six-panel doors with overlights. A similar sash window is to the left. Each ground floor sash has a segmental rubbed brick arch above it. A late 20th-century shopfront with incurved glazing bar windows and a central door is on the right-hand side of the building.
