Description

Two houses, dating from the late 18th century, which have been altered to become two shops and flats. The brick building has a pantile roof and features a first-floor band, cogged eaves, a single coped gable, and a single ridge stack. The two storeys plus attic structure has a five-window front, with two windows blanked. The original windows are plain sashes with segmental heads, although the left window has been replaced with a 20th-century casement. Above, a box dormer is located to the left, and a gabled dormer with a Yorkshire sash to the right. The left-hand side features an early 20th-century shopfront with altered brackets to the fascia, and a centrally placed, splayed doorway with glazed door and overlight. Single-pane windows flank the doorway, the larger one on the left having a leaded toplight. The right-hand side has a larger, late 19th-century shopfront with a cornice. A centrally placed glazed door is flanked by single-pane windows, the smaller one on the right being altered. To the far right is a round-headed entry with a close-boarded door, above which is a plate inscribed "Bettinson's Yard."
