Description
39 and 41 London Road are two houses built in the early 19th century, with a mid-19th century addition at the back. They are constructed of brick, featuring a rendered and colorwashed front, and have a hipped slate roof. The houses have a plinth, deep eaves, and four ridge stacks along with a single side wall stack. The slightly projecting four-bay center is two stories high and includes a six-window range of plain sashes with wavy blind boxes.
House number 39, located on the left, has a glazing bar sash and a blank space on its left side. Below this, there is a plain Classical style doorcase with a hood and a half-glazed door that has an overlight. To the right of the door, there is another plain sash window. The left side features a two-storey rear wing with a mansard roof and a hipped porch at the return angle. Notably, number 39 is the birthplace of Sir William Nicholson, a painter, born in 1872.
