Description
31 Kirkgate is a house that has been converted into a shop, along with three attached cottages. It dates from the late 18th century, with additions and alterations made in the early 19th century, further changes in the late 19th century, and more modifications in the late 20th century. The building is constructed of brick, with the front being colourwashed and the left gable rendered. It features gabled and hipped roofs covered in pantiles, plain eaves, two ridge stacks, and a single gable stack.
The structure has three storeys and a two-window range of glazing bar sashes, with two smaller sashes above. The late 19th-century shopfront is pilastered and includes a cornice, with a splayed central doorway that has a two-leaf door flanked by single windows. At the rear, there is a late 18th-century wing that is two storeys plus attics. This wing has a three-light Yorkshire sash and a glazing bar sash with segmental heads on the south side, and a gabled dormer with a three-light Yorkshire sash on the north side. The adjoining cottages are also two storeys and have six windows, primarily featuring Yorkshire sashes, with ground floor openings that have segmental heads.
