Description
22 and 24 Kirkgate are two houses that have been converted into a butcher's shop. They date from the late 15th century and were restored and altered in the mid 19th century and mid 20th century. The buildings are timber framed, featuring arch braces and rendered nogging, with a colourwashed brick underbuild and a steeply pitched Roman tile roof. They have a first-floor jetty supported by brackets on two sides and an external rendered gable stack.
The structure is two storeys high and has a layout of four by three bays. The Kirkgate front displays four 20th-century leaded casements with two and three lights. Below these, on the left, there is a 19th-century panelled door with an overlight, flanked by single-pane windows. To the left of this door is a 20th-century entry door with a slatted ventilator above. To the right, there is a margin light sash window and a larger single-pane window.
On the gable end facing Middlegate, there is a 20th-century three-light leaded casement. To the left, there is a corner doorway with a 19th-century two-leaf half-glazed door, and to the right, there is a single-pane window.
