Description

25 Castlegate is a house that has been converted into a restaurant and shop. It was built in the mid-18th century and has undergone some alterations in the late 20th century. The building is constructed of brick with stone dressings and features a slate roof. It has a plinth, modillion eaves, a pediment, and corner pilasters, along with a single gable stack.

The central section of the building projects and is topped with a pediment. It has three windows on the front, with a total of five windows across three storeys. The windows are glazing bar sashes, with the central three featuring keystones. Above these, there are five smaller sashes, all of which have rubbed brick heads. At the top, there is a blank lunette window in the pediment.

The entrance is marked by a central reeded wooden doorcase that has an open pediment supported by consoles, along with a panelled door and a fanlight. To the left of the entrance, there are two late 20th-century glazing bar shop windows. To the right, there are two late 20th-century glazing bar lights that have replaced the original sashes, also featuring rubbed brick heads and keystones.
