Description

Matlock Mill Joinery Works is a former water-powered textile mill that has been converted into joinery works. It dates from the late 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th century and late 20th century. The building is constructed of coursed squared stone with stone dressings, featuring brick additions and a slate roof with a brick gable stack.

The structure has a plinth and quoins, with stone lintels over the first-floor windows and flat arches over most of the ground-floor windows. It is two storeys high and has an 11-window range of unevenly hung 20-pane sash windows, some of which have been partly reglazed. On the ground floor to the left, there is a board door, flanked on the left by two 4-light casements and on the right by eight 20-pane sashes. To the right, there is a 6-pane casement and another board door.

At the rear, there is a late 20th-century two-storey brick addition on the left. To its right are eight 20-pane sashes, with seven 20-pane sashes below, some of which have been altered. There is also a blocked round wheel arch to the right, above which is an altered glazing bar sash and a 4-pane casement. The left gable features a late 20th-century loft door and window above, along with a single-storey lean-to addition. The right gable facing the street has an altered loft door, now at ground level, flanked on the right by a 2-light casement. Beyond this is a 20th-century addition with three windows.
