Description
The Mill is a former watermill and mill house dating to the late 18th century, with additions from the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of local stone rubble, with coursed stonework, and has plain clay tile roofs with plain gables. Brick chimney stacks are also present. The main block is three storeys high and has a two-bay south elevation. It features rectangular leaded casement windows of four lights, with matching two-light windows added to the ground floor. The majority of these windows are under timber lintols, although a small raked dormer with a two-light window is located on the second floor. An entrance door is positioned at first-floor level between the bays. This leads to a boarded door within a heavy frame, and is accessed by a winding stone staircase with a stone sidewall. A two-storey, two-bay extension is attached to the west, featuring two-light leaded windows. Further extensions are present to the rear, and a late 20th-century wing extends at a right angle from the east gable, designed to match the appearance of the original building. The interior has not been inspected. The mill was originally waterpowered, and a cast iron water wheel, approximately 2 metres in diameter, is now mounted decoratively in the garden. The wheel remains functional, being turned by one of the millstreams. The property forms a picturesque group, with the central building being a noteworthy survival.
