Description
No. 24 Moorgate is a farmhouse from the early 18th century that has been altered in the early 19th century and is currently vacant. It is constructed of red brick with brick dressings and a stone plinth. The building has two storeys and a former pantile roof, featuring four windows, one of which is blocked. The layout is T-shaped, and there is a brick band between the storeys. The street front includes a central doorway that has a wooden pilastered surround with an entablature and cornice. On either side of the doorway are single plain sash windows with brick voussoirs. To the left, there is a carriage entrance with a timber lintel and plank doors. Above the doorway, there is a central narrow sash window flanked by single sashes, with a narrow blocked opening to the left. At the rear, there is a gabled wing that features a tall narrow staircase window.
Inside, the original dog-leg staircase with splat balusters remains, and the ground floor rooms have early 19th-century marble fireplaces. The building retains original spine beams and panel doors throughout. The room on the left of the first floor features original raised and fielded panelling, while the attic has a lime-ash floor and the roof retains many original timbers.
