Description

This property, numbers 2, 4, and 4A Churchgate, has origins in the 18th century, with alterations made in the late 19th century. It is a double-pile house with a pantile roof at the rear and new tiles on the front. The building has three storeys and is rendered. A late 19th-century addition is located on the right-hand side, featuring a moulded gable end and parapet. This addition includes a segmental-headed window, a band between the storeys, and a modern entry. The main section features a segmental-headed window of two lights with casements on the right side. On the left side, there are two windows to the top floor with moulded frames and glazing bars, and similar framed, hung sash windows with glazing bars to the first floor. A band runs along the cills. A modern shop front occupies the ground floor. The property is included as part of a group, alongside numbers 2 to 18 (even), including numbers 4A and 14A, and the Parish Church of St Swithun. Numbers 12, 14, 14A, 16, and 18 are also of local interest.
