Description
Sloswick's Hospital Almshouses are early 19th-century almshouses. The foundation dates back to 1657, although the current building results from alterations made in 1806 and 1819. The front facade is constructed of red brick and features a modillion cornice and an open pediment over the central three-window section, which projects forward. The building has a five-window frontage, with each window featuring a pointed arch and intersecting glazing bars. A central doorway is framed by a similar architrave and fanlight. A plaque within the pediment records the original foundation and subsequent alterations. The roof is slate-covered, with three chimney stacks. The almshouses form a group with numbers 1 to 33 (odd).
