Description

Numbers 1 and 2 The Kennels are two houses built in the mid-19th century. They are constructed from ashlar and coursed rubble, topped with a slate roof featuring decorative bargeboards and finials. The building has two storeys and consists of seven bays. The central three bays project and are gabled. The central doorway has a part-glazed and panelled double door with a glazing bar overlight. This doorway is flanked by narrow casements and two two-light wooden cross casements. Above, there are five two-light casements with mullions, all of which have marginal glazing bars, and all openings feature flush lintels.

To the rear right, there is a wing made of dressed coursed rubble with ashlar quoins, comprising four bays. The left gable bay projects and contains a single wooden cross casement with a lintel. To the right, there is a glass, slate, and wood gabled porch with decorative bargeboard and finial. This porch is accompanied by two similar casements with flush ashlar quoin surrounds. Above the porch, in the gable, is a single two-light casement with a wooden mullion, along with a narrow casement and two additional two-light casements to the right, all featuring flush ashlar quoin surrounds and marginal glazing bars.

To the rear left, there is a corresponding wing, which has a finial instead of a gable stack. The gabled porch here is made of ashlar and slate, with decorative bargeboard and finial, a part-glazed door, and a similar small casement in the left wall.
