Description
Dovecot Cottage is a cottage that was formerly a pigeoncote, built in the early 19th century with later additions from the late 19th century. It is constructed of dressed coursed rubble and features a pyramidal slate roof. The building has a single double stone stack at the rear and a central weather vane, with dogtooth eaves and set on a plinth.
The cottage has three storeys and consists of a single bay. The central feature is a late 19th-century canted bay window with casement windows. Above this are two arched casements with flush ashlar surrounds. The top floor has a single arched opening with a flush ashlar surround and a wooden traceried panel.
To the right, set back, is a two-storey, two-bay late 19th-century wing that also has a single double stone stack at the rear. In the re-entrant angle, there is a stone and slate open porch with a 20th-century inner door. The first floor has a single fixed light.
The southeast gable is adorned with decorative bargeboard and quoins, featuring a single projecting bay with casements. Above this are two arched casements with flush ashlar quoin surrounds. The top floor of the pigeoncote includes a rectangular opening with a flush ashlar surround. To the right, set back, is a gabled single-storey plus attic single bay wing, which has decorative bargeboard and an arched casement in a flush ashlar surround on each floor.
