Description
Windmill Cottage is a building that originally started as one cottage, later became two cottages, and is now under single ownership. It dates from the early 18th century and was extended to the left around 1760. The structure is made of stone rubble with ashlar quoins and features stone gable ends with kneelers. The roof, which was originally thatched, is now covered with modern tiles and has a renewed brick chimney stack.
The cottage has three renewed casement windows with triangular patterned glazing, possibly mimicking designs from the older windows. There is a modern penticed doorcase at the entrance. Inside, you will find a wooden two-panelled door with an L hinge, a brick fireplace with a cambered arch that indicates the location of a former bread oven, and a stone flagged floor. The lounge features a beam with a slight chamfer, and an internal stone mullioned window on the first floor suggests that the cottage was extended at some point.
