Description

Mellow Cottage and Old Post Office is a house that has been converted into two cottages. It dates from the early 18th century, with some 19th and 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of red brick and features pantile roofs, including a shaped west gable, coped gables with kneelers, a gable stack, two ridge stacks, and a gable stack at the rear. The overall layout is L-shaped, which was adapted to an F-plan in the 20th century.

The north front is two storeys high with five irregular bays, a plinth, a first-floor band, and decorated eaves. There is a doorway to the left within a brick gabled porch that has a segmental head and a plank door. To the left of the doorway, there is a three-light sliding sash window with a segmental head, and to the right, there are two three-light sliding sashes, with the far-right window also having a segmental head. Above, there are five sliding sashes with wooden lintels.

The east front has two storeys and a garret, featuring two bays with a plinth, a first-floor band, and decorated eaves. It includes two large fixed glazing bar windows with segmental heads, and above these are two sliding sashes with 20th-century shutters. There is a 20th-century extension at the rear.

Inside Mellow Cottage, the ceilings are beamed, and there are inglenook fireplaces, one of which has a chamfered beam.
