Description

This is an early 19th-century terrace of five houses, numbered 1 to 7 Cobden Street, which includes the property at 2a Ropery Road. The houses are built of pale brick with a pantile roof and five chimney stacks. They are three storeys high and originally had five windows to each upper storey, now mostly with modern glazing, except for the windows on the first floor of number 5, and the ground floor of the entire terrace which incorporate modern shutters. The ground floor windows retain glazing bars, as do some of the first-floor windows. The doorcases have grooved pilasters and modern swag ornament to the friezes, sheltering doors of six fielded panels with two glazed upper panels, accessed by three steps. A basement window is visible at number 1, and the brick plinth is rendered except at number 1.

The side elevation facing Ropery Road has three windows on each of the three storeys, with segmental arches over the windows, and no glazing bars. A grooved doorcase with cornice leads to a modern door, accessed by three steps. The building is designated a group value with The Old Hall.
