Description

Gate Burton Hall Cottages are two cottages designed to resemble a stable block, built around 1914, likely by architect Detmar Blow. They are constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings and feature plain tile and slate roofs. The building has two three-light dormers and six two-light dormers, all fitted with casement windows, and is topped with four tall ridge stacks.

The south front is two stories and an attic high, comprising twelve bays. A prominent central round-headed archway, dressed in ashlar and featuring a scrolled ashlar keystone, leads into a courtyard. This archway is flanked by single brick pilasters with inset ashlar diamonds. To the left of the archway, there are three glazing bar sash windows, each with scrolled brick keystones.

Beyond this, three bays project with a steeply pitched slate roof, containing two glazing bar sashes with ashlar keystones, flanking a central brick niche set within an ashlar moulded architrave. Above this niche is a panel decorated with a festoon of fruit and flowers and bracketed segmental pediments. To the right of the archway, there are two more glazing bar sashes with scrolled brick keystones, followed by a doorway featuring a partially glazed panelled door and a small wooden gabled hood. Two additional bays project to the right, containing two glazing bar sashes, and above the central archway is a gable dressed in ashlar with two narrow glazing bar sashes beneath a single ashlar keystone.
