Description

10, 11 and 12 St Mary's Square are three cottages built in the late 18th century, with later additions from the late 19th and 20th centuries. The cottages are constructed of mud and stud encased in red brick, topped with a thatched roof and a range that runs north-south, covered with corrugated iron. They feature a single axial ridge stack, a projecting gable stack to the north, and another single ridge stack. The building is L-shaped and consists of one storey with an attic.

The east front has six bays, with a doorway to the right that has a partially glazed door from the 20th century. To the left of this door is a single glazing bar sash window, followed by another doorway with a partially glazed door. Further left, there is another single glazing bar sash window with a blocked doorway beyond, which has a small 20th-century casement window inserted. There is also a blocked window to the left. All openings have segmental heads.

Above the main façade, there are three gabled thatched dormer windows, each with two sliding sashes and glazing bars. The south front consists of four bays, featuring a gabled wooden porch with a pointed entrance, a finial, and a partially glazed door. To the right of the porch are two glazing bar sash windows, and to the left is a single glazing bar sash window. All these openings have segmental heads and painted wedge lintels. Additionally, there is a narrow plain sash window beyond with margin lights and a segmental head, along with a glazing bar sash window above in the gable and to the right, which also has a segmental head and painted wedge lintel.
