Number 16 Front Street and Railings and Gate

Number 16 Front Street is a house with railings and a gate, dating from the 18th century, with some early 19th-century alterations. The building is finished in stucco, featuring ashlar and stucco dressings, and has a slate hipped roof with lead dressings, along with one ridge and two wall brick stacks. The front has four bays and two storeys, with a plinth, a moulded first-floor string course, and rusticated quoins.

The entrance is off-centre and features a partially glazed six-panelled door with a plain fanlight, set within a stone doorcase that includes two Tuscan columns with square bases, supporting a frieze with paterae and a hood. To the left of the door are two glazing bar sashes, while to the right is a single early 19th-century tripartite plain sash. The first floor has four glazing bar sashes.

Inside, the early 19th-century staircase has pairs of delicately turned balusters. A semi-circular archway leads to the inner rooms, with the arch and architraves featuring reeded surrounds and decorative angles. The cornice displays a Greek Key and egg-and-dart design, and the rear room is adorned with a highly ornate rose cornice in a lattice work pattern. There is also one 19th-century marble fireplace.

The external cast iron railings are set on an ashlar plinth and consist of two tiers of plain rods, with mid and top rails.
