Description
No 2, The White House is a house built in 1701, with significant alterations made in the late 18th century. The building is constructed of stuccoed brick and features a roof covered with triple roll tiles and brick gable stacks. It stands two storeys high, plus attics, and has a four-bay front. The exterior includes a plinth, a first-floor band, and rusticated quoins, all in stucco.
The central entrance consists of a six-panelled door with a three-paned overlight, surrounded by wooden panelled reveals and a doorcase topped with a pediment supported by brackets. To the left of the door are two glazing bar sash windows, and to the right is one similar window. The first floor features four similar windows, all adorned with blank, slightly advanced pediments. Above the door, there is a plain panel inscribed with the year 1701. A single dormer on the roof has a glazing bar Yorkshire sash window with leaded cheeks.
Inside, the house boasts a good straight flight staircase with turned bulbous balusters that reflect a late 17th-century style.
