Description
No 24 and 26 South Street is a house and shop dating from the 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building features painted brickwork and a pantiled roof, topped with a raised brick coped gable and brick kneeler. The front has four bays and is two stories high, with a first-floor band and a dogtooth eaves course.
The entrance is an off-centre 20th-century half-glazed door, accessed by three steps. To the left is a 19th-century shopfront that includes a glazed door and a plain cornice, along with a glazing bar sash window. To the right of the door is a 20th-century glazing bar sash window. On the first floor, there are three 20th-century glazing bar sashes and one 19th-century glazing bar sash, along with a small 20th-century hinged light. The ground floor windows have horizontal heads, while the first-floor windows feature segmental brick heads. This listing includes Nos 24-26 Butter Market and is noted for its group value.
