Description

This is an 18th-century house and shop, which was formerly the Angel Inn, altered in the 19th century. It is constructed of red brick with a pantiled, half-hipped roof, and has gable and ridge brick stacks. The building has a three-bay front, originally four bays, with two stories plus attics. A brick band runs along the first floor, and a dog-tooth eaves course is present. The ground floor has a central six-panelled door with a three-pane overlight, flanked to the right by a glazing bar sash window. The first floor has three glazing bar sashes, with a blocked fourth window opening to the left. All window and door openings have brick segmental heads. Newer brickwork on the corner at the right-hand side indicates a former angle entrance. The front facing the Butter Market has a 19th-century shop front, featuring a canted oriel with glazing bars, and a glazing bar sash window above.
