Description

Barbarellas and Lloyds Bank is a pair of houses that have been converted into a bank, shop, and offices. Built in 1785, the building has been altered in the 19th and 20th centuries. It features squared coursed limestone rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings, and a Collyweston slate roof with stone coped gables and two gable stacks, one made of ashlar and the other of rendered brick.

The structure is L-shaped, two stories high plus attics, with a four-bay front. The entrance on the left has a 19th-century flush panel door with a plain fanlight, set in a moulded doorcase topped with a dentillated open pediment. To the right, there is a 20th-century glazing bar fixed light with an ashlar lintel, a glazed door, and another flush panel door with a matching doorcase and pediment. Further to the right is a modern shop window and doorway beneath a contemporary fascia.

On the first floor, there are four glazing bar sash windows. The leftmost window is framed in a moulded wooden surround with a cornice, while the three on the right have ashlar lintels with raised stepped keyblocks. Similar lintels are found over the ground floor openings. The roof features three gabled two-light dormers with slate hung cheeks at eaves level. On the Stamford Road side, there is a datestone inscribed "JL 1785" located beneath a small cornice at eaves level.
